Occupational Therapy
The Pediatric ReHabilitation Department of Exeter Hospital is committed to offering the highest quality care to children and families in the community. Our goal is to provide excellent patient care experiences by engaging families in the treatment process and responding to specific needs and preferences. Our team consists of occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists.
A pediatric occupational therapist works with children and their families to help maximize a child’s potential to perform and participate in the activities of his or her daily life. The term “occupation” for children refers to the roles they play in school, home and community; the activities they enjoy such as sports or games; and the activities that have meaning for them. We help children succeed in their social and emotional roles as they interact in society, and assist them with their developmental needs as they gain independence in self-help skills such as movement, dressing, hygiene, and feeding.
Our pediatric occupational therapists support children in the development of skills needed to be a successful student, sibling, son or daughter, friend, and community member. We collaborate with children, their families, medical providers, educators, and other therapy disciplines to provide the best, most current therapy, and to help children develop into happy, healthy, independent adults. Occupational therapists use activities of daily living to assist children in the development of fine motor strength and coordination, sensory processing and perceptual skills.
