Emergency Care for our Communities

The Exeter Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide care for emergencies in our community.  We partner with EMS providers in the surrounding towns to ensure an efficient transfer of care when patients are brought in by ambulance.  EMS providers contact us en route and can even send EKG transmissions prior to arrival so our staff is ready to provide care. Exeter Advanced Life Support (ALS) is Exeter Hospital’s team of paramedics who staff the ED as well as serving the surrounding communities in partnership with EMS providers.

Level III Trauma Center

Exeter Hospital is a Level III Trauma Center, meeting all established standards set by the State of New Hampshire. We provide comprehensive emergency care 24 hours a day to critically injured patients, from simple orthopedic injuries to complex cases. The hospital has worked to standardize our resources to consistently deliver high quality trauma care, and to rapidly mobilize resources for incoming trauma patients. The Trauma program at Exeter Hospital encompasses every member of the health system, beginning with local EMS services and hospital paramedics, and including the ED, surgeons, anesthesiologists, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), radiology, respiratory, rehabilitation and inpatient services.

Nationally Recognized Stroke Care

Exeter Hospital has achieved Acute Stroke Ready certification through DNV GL Healthcare by demonstrating compliance with quality standards of care, and the hospital’s Stroke Team provides rapid action and proper medications to save lives and limit long-term disabling effects. Close relationships with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) departments also ensures early communication and preparation for treatment when patients arrive by ambulance.

Exeter Hospital has been providing telestroke care in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital since 2007, which enables providers to conference in specialists from Mass General to ensure the patient receives the highest level of care possible.

Our Care Team

Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality care as efficiently as possible. To meet that goal, Exeter Hospital is pleased to partner with US Acute Care Solutions (USACS), a team of board certified emergency medicine physicians who work with our specially trained physician assistants and nurses. USACS brings a wealth of experience in emergency department care and efficiency.  Many of our ED nurses have an Emergency Nurse Certification (CEN) and we also have Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners on staff.  Additionally, Seacoast Mental Health counselors are available in our ED 24/7 to provide care for mental health emergencies.
