Medical Oncologists/Hematologist

Medical Oncologists/Hematologists are physicians who specialize in the care and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. They are experts in the treatment and management of side effects related to cancer therapies, and they work closely with other physicians and members of the Oncology team.

Our partnership with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center brings leading medical hematologists/oncologists from the nationally recognized Mass General Hospital Cancer Center to Exeter Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care. This collaborative relationship allows us to offer state of the art medical hematology/oncology services in our community.

Treatment Center

The Medical Oncology facility at Exeter Hospital offers 13 treatment areas, including 3 private day suites for long term infusion treatment.

Each treatment area includes a comfortable heated recliner, television/dvd, portable telephones, wireless computer access and seating for visitors.
 

                                                         
 
The two infusion areas, both with southern exposure, face the Healing Garden filled with flowering trees, plants and the soothing sound of trickling water. The private outdoor garden acts as an extension of the treatment area where patients can receive chemotherapy treatment within nature's healing environment.

Laboratory

The Exeter Hospital Department of Oncology/Hemotology provides an onsite, state licensed laboratory for the convenience of our patients undergoing therapy. Our laboratory is operated by two Registered Medical Technologists and is affiliated with LabCorp.

Complete Blood Counts can be performed immediately, and are quickly made available to our physicians. In this way, we are able to rapidly assess our patients' current status. All other laboratory work is sent to the main hospital laboratory for completion.  

Pharmacy

The Oncology Pharmacy is dedicated to providing all patients with safe and accurate chemotherapy, drug information regarding their therapy, and other information as needed. Pharmacists also review each patient's current medication history to optimize therapy. Patients are encouraged to seek information from the pharmacist regarding any questions that may arise during their course of treatment. All pharmacists are licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy of New Hampshire.

Pharmacists, in conjunction with physicians and nurses, review all orders for drugs to verify accuracy, then mix these products utilizing national standards. Verification of drug therapy is accomplished by reviewing each order against accepted treatment regimens. All pharmacists are licensed by the state board of Pharmacy of New Hampshire.
