Genetic Screening & Counseling
The Center for Cancer Care at Exeter Hospital, Inc., offers a High-Risk Cancer Genetic Screening Clinic for individuals concerned about the risk of an inherited cancer. Working in collaboration with New Hampshire Oncology and Hematology, P.A., and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the clinic's oncologist and team of genetic counselors can evaluate you and your family history to determine the possibility of a cancer predisposition.
During an appointment at the Genetic Screening Clinic, you and your family will meet with a certified genetic counselor who will review your medical and family history to construct a generational cancer pedigree. Information regarding risks, benefits, and limitations of genetic testing will be reviewed. And, if appropriate, the genetic counselor will offer genetic testing at the time of the appointment. If testing is pursued, a second appointment will be scheduled to review results and options for risk reduction.
