MANAGEMENT OF WORK RELATED INJURY OR ILLNESS

COEH provides prompt, same day treatment for work related injuries.

Work related injuries are managed in our clinic during regular business hours and through the Exeter Hospital Emergency Department (ED) during off hours. We collaborate with our ED staff to ensure consistent management of work related injury any time of day or night.

The best way to minimize the risks of work related injuries is to get the best treatment, as soon as possible, by health care professionals that understand the workers' compensation
system.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Health Watch Employee Assistance Program (EAP) assists employers and their employees in dealing with personal problems that may affect morale and reduce productivity.

The EAP is part of Exeter Hospital's Center for Occupational and Employee Health. The EAP provides short-term solution focused counseling and referral for a range of personal, family, and workplace issues. The EAP is both a benefit for employees and their household members, as well as a management tool.

EAP components include:

  • Reviewing personnel policies and assisting with EAP policy writing
  • Consulting with managers and supervisors about the most effective ways to
    manage troubled employees
  • Assisting employees who are demonstrating job performance problems
  • Providing a full array of promotional materials and training as needed, building EAP
    awareness with employees
  • Assisting both employees and their household members with assessment, short-term problem-solving, and referrals to appropriate community and counseling providers, when needed. Three and six session models available.
  • Coaching for management and leadership skills

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)

The EAP staff are trained to provide timely response to workplace trauma, accidents, or crises. These services begin with a telephonic assessment to determine the best plan for the organization. The response is often a structured group educational meeting with all employees affected by the critical incident. This may be followed with individual debriefing sessions for employees who are interested. This service is FREE to an organization with our EAP contract. This service is also available on a fee-for-service basis.

Substance Abuse Professional (SAP)

The Behavioral Risk Management staff includes a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). She provides the DOT required SAP evaluations for CDL drivers who fail DOT alcohol and drug tests. This process can only be provided by a
clinician with the DOT accepted SAP designation. This service is FREE for all covered drivers included in our EAP contracts. This service offering is also available on a fee-for-service basis.

Organizational Consultation and Training

The Behavioral Risk Management consultants work with managers on how best to deal with work performance and risk issues due to behavioral health issues (question of mental health and substance abuse). This service is part of our EAP contract but is also available on a fee-for-service basis.

The consultants also provide workshops on wellness and health education
topics. A certain number of workshops can be included in our EAP contract
with an organization. These trainings are also available on a fee-for-service
basis:

Examples of training topics include:

  • Stress Management: series of one - three sessions
  • Sexual Harassment: for supervisory staff; for employees
  • Conflict Management Skills
  • Depression in the Workplace
  • Coaching Supervisors in Having Difficult Conversations

Other training programs can be designed for the specific needs of the company.

Workplace health programs provide management for both work injury/illness and personal medical concerns. Their quality and convenience encourage higher participation in preventive health and wellness programs and wiser health care decisions, both for the employer and the employee. The benefits of COEH providing health services at the workplace include reduced medical costs, reduced recordable injury rates, lost time, and the use of outside health care providers.

COEH can customize an onsite program to fit the needs of your organization. Our recommendation can be as simple as providing an occupational health nurse to staff your medical office or as comprehensive as a full service clinic. In addition to our experienced, highly credentialed staff, COEH has access to resources at Exeter Hospital and a knowledge base built through decades of experience providing workplace health services to New Hampshire businesses.
