At the Center for Cancer Care, we consider exercise to be a potential part of each patient's treatment plan. Cancer Well-Fit is our exercise program designed for people who are currently in or within one year of cancer treatment. These free, 10-week, twice-weekly exercise classes are held at Synergy's Health and Fitness Center on the campus of Exeter Hospital. Class times are: 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, 4:00pm and 4:30pm.
All participants are screened by a physical therapist prior to enrollment and individual exercise programs are prescribed to meet the needs of each participant.
Weekly Cancer Well-Fit Yoga classes are also available at Synergy's Mind Body Studio. Medical clearance and screening are required for the Cancer Well-Fit Yoga classes.

Parent and Toddler Groups

Toddlers are endearing, yet very challenging to parents! The Parent and Toddler Groups at the Family Center at Exeter Hospital offer socialization, support, and information to help you survive and enjoy this special stage of childhood. Led by a Family Center nurse, who is also an experienced parent, the session includes a scheduled topic with time for discussion, questions, and socialization for both you and your toddler. The groups meet every 1st Thursday and 3rd Monday of each month.
Come make some new friends and enjoy an informative, fun morning out!

Joint Replacement Information Class

The Center for Joint Replacement offers an on-going class for individuals who are considering joint replacement or for patients and families to attend prior to their scheduled joint replacement surgery. This class is designed to educate the patient and family members about what to expect and give them the opportunity to meet some of the team members. The class is always open to questions and concerns that patients and their family members may have. I t is open for anyone having or considering joint replacement surgery.

Create Your Weight will provide participants with the knowledge and tools they need to successfully manage their weight forever simply by making better choices. Cancer Support Group

This support group meets weekly on Thursday evenings. Patients, family members and friends are invited to attend. You will have an opportunity to learn coping skills and gain emotional support from long-term cancer survivors and other patients currently in treatment.
On a periodic schedule, staff from the Oncology Clinic will attend this group to answer specific questions that group members may have.

Breast Feeding Support Group

At home, after your baby is born, you have available to you a support group. The group meets every Friday from 10:00am - 12:00 noon. This group provides the added support needed for the changing needs of a growing baby. This is also a time to foster mother to mother support and assistance. A lactation consultant is available during this time. There is no requirement to register for this group jut show up and join in with all the participants.

DriveAbility - New Driver Education Classes

DriveAbility at Exeter Healthcare is going to be offering "New Driver Education" classes once again. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
The course will include 30 hours of classroom education, 10 hours of behind the wheel instruction with a State Certified Instructor and 6 hours of in car observation.
The first night of class parents are encouraged to attend to learn about our program, state rules and regulations, and ways to assist new drivers.

Masters Swim Program

This workout is similar to the United States Masters Swim program. Swimmers should be able to swim 100 yards (2 laps) freestyle without stopping.

HealthReach Diabetes will again offer TALK'N DIABETES, an informative and lively discussion about diabetes self-care. This program is offered in collaboration with Neighborhood Diabetes, a local pharmacy and diabetes resource organization. Monthly topics will focus on helping people who live with diabetes gain control over their disease - one step at a time.
TALK'N DIABETES will be held on the second Wednesday of every month at Exeter Senior Center, 32 Court Street in Exeter.

Youth Yoga

7-13 year old youths will learn Yoga. This program will be 45 minutes. The class will help children to learn the fundamentals of yoga, while having fun with animal poses and stretches. This class will improve balance and flexibility. Jeanne, a Synergy instructor has several years experience teaching "yoga for kids".

Parenting a baby can be a wonderful time of you life! However, many parents have questions and may experience some isolation during that first year. Information is helpful but also important is getting together with others who are going through the same experience. The Family Center offers this opportunity with the Parent and Baby Groups. The group meets usually on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays and Thursdays of each month. Each session will include a presentation. Parents can share experiences and have their questions answered by each other and by our group leader.
The group is divided into two: the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays are for babies from birth to 6 months. The 2nd and 4th Thursdays are for 7 months to 12 months of age.

Fit-N-Fun for Kids

4-6 year olds will march, jump, hop, skip, roll, balance and stretch. The program will be packed into a FUN 45 minute class working with music, hula hoops, balls, a hill, parachutes and exercise mats. Gayle, a Synergy instructor and a gymnast herself, has 14 years of Gymnastics and Tumbling Coaching experience.

Child Passenger Safety

Child Passenger Safety Classes - A 45 minute class which educates participants on the proper use of child passenger restraints. Statistics show that 9 out of 10 car seats are improperly installed. This class will answer questions concerning New Hampshire car seat requirements including proper use of harness, seat incline, rear facing vs. forward facing positioning and other vital information you need to know to keep your child safe in a vehicle. Free of charge.

Friends & Family CPR

CPR for Family & Friends - is a 2 hour course for the layperson interested in learning CPR and the Heimlich for all ages from adult to infant. No CPR card will be issued and NO TESTING is necessary for completion of the course. CPR covers ages 0 - to adult. Class fees are $25.
This class is reimbursable through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Registration for the class is guaranteed by both your enrollment and class payment. At home, after your baby is born, you have available to you a support group. The group meets every Friday from 10:00am - 12:00 noon. This group provides the added support needed for the changing needs of a growing baby. This is also a time to foster mother to mother support and assistance. A lactation consultant is available during this time. There is no requirement to register for this group jut show up and join in with all the participants.

Basic Training for Dads - is a unique workshop taught by men for men.

Parenting multiples presents many unique challenges and demands that require at least double the amount of ingenuity, stamina, strength, and patience on a regular daily basis!
Come join the Parents and Twins and More Group for a fun, informative morning out with your children. A Family Center registered nurse, experienced mom, and a twin herself, will lead the group in a discussion involving issues pertinent to your situation. The goals of the group are to provide you with socialization, information, support, and the opportunity to meet other parents of multiples in the area. This is a great place to get your questions answered, your concerns addressed and the chance to share ideas and suggestions with other parents of multiples.

Look good...feel better is an American Cancer Society program designed to teach women hair and make-up techniques while undergoing treatment for cancer.
The Center for Oncology and Hematology has a cosmetologist/hair stylist that offers a monthly class to address the effects of chemotherapy related hair loss and skin changes. A free make-up kit is provided for the class.

DriveAbility - New Driver Education Classes

DriveAbility at Exeter Healthcare is going to be offering "New Driver Education" classes once again. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
The course will include 30 hours of classroom education, 10 hours of behind the wheel instruction with a State Certified Instructor and 6 hours of in car observation.
The first night of class parents are encouraged to attend to learn about our program, state rules and regulations, and ways to assist new drivers.

At the Center for Cancer Care, we consider exercise to be a potential part of each patient's treatment plan. Cancer Well-Fit is our exercise program designed for people who are currently in or within one year of cancer treatment. These free, 10-week, twice-weekly exercise classes are held at Synergy's Health and Fitness Center on the campus of Exeter Hospital. Class times are: 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, 4:00pm and 4:30pm.
All participants are screened by a physical therapist prior to enrollment and individual exercise programs are prescribed to meet the needs of each participant.
Weekly Cancer Well-Fit Yoga classes are also available at Synergy's Mind Body Studio. Medical clearance and screening are required for the Cancer Well-Fit Yoga classes.

Parent and Baby Groups

Parenting a baby can be a wonderful time of you life! However, many parents have questions and may experience some isolation during that first year. Information is helpful but also important is getting together with others who are going through the same experience. The Family Center offers this opportunity with the Parent and Baby Groups. The group meets usually on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays and Thursdays of each month. Each session will include a presentation. Parents can share experiences and have their questions answered by each other and by our group leader.
The group is divided into two: the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays are for babies from birth to 6 months. The 2nd and 4th Thursdays are for 7 months to 12 months of age.

Infant Massage Class

Infant Massage, the ancient art of soothing your baby, is practiced in many parts of the world. Infant Massage has been gaining popularity in the United States for several years. Research has shown that babies who are massaged on a regular basis sleep better, deeper and longer. Massage also helps with colic, gas, constipation and teething, just to name a few!
Exeter Hospital's Family Center is now offering FREE introductory Infant Massage Classes but class size will be limited and registration is necessary! Please wait until your baby is born before registering for the class. The recommended age of your baby by the date of the class is between 4 weeks to 10 months old.
WHAT TO BRING:

A small container of edible oil, such as olive, grapeseed or canola

A boppie or an extra beach towel, best if you have a very young baby (less than 6 months)

Masters Swim Program

Healthreach Smoking Cessation: Kickin' Butts!

A community smoking cessation program that combines individual follow up and group support and education on healthy lifestyle strategies for becoming and staying smoke-free. The group component consists of 3 group classes that meet each month. Enrollment can begin at any time, but must include participation in all 3 classes.
After your enrollment you will receive a call from the Program Coordinator to talk about your smoking history, help you set a quit date, and give you details on the program structure and group classes.
Healthy Eating Strategies is taught by a Registered Dietician. You will learn the principles of healthy eating, how healthy eating can help control your urge to smoke and prevent weight gain, and practical, individualized strategies to incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle. This class is reimbursable through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Heartsaver Pediatric CPR

This 2.5 hour course covers one person pediatric CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and injury prevention for infants, children (ages 1-8) and adults. This is a 2 year certification course with practical skills test. Class fees are $35.

This lively 1 hour class is aimed at children 2-10 years old, and includes tour, short 5 minute video, and interactive instruction to learn what being a big brother or sister is all about. Please have your children bring a baby doll or stuffed animal to "practice" holding and wrapping.
We have found that the tour of the Family Center is especially helpful for all participants, especially the very young, because they get to see where mom is going to be when she has the new baby. One of both parents are encouraged to attend.

Taught by registered nurses who are also certified childbirth educators, the classes cover labor, birth, strategies for managing discomfort in labor (e.g. breathing and relaxation techniques), and various technologies that may be used.
A tour of the Family Center and birth video clips are included. This series of 4 classes is offered on weekday evenings. It is expected that you complete "Your Pregnant Body" class before beginning this series.

Massage Therapy

Various massage techniques can be administered safely during cancer treatment for patients cleared by their doctor and treated by an oncology trained massage therapist. Brief, complimentary massage is available within the Center for Cancer Care for those patients receiving active treatment here during their medical appointment.
Private outpatient massage services in our integrative oncology room are also available at the Center for Cancer Care by appointment, for a fee. Gift certificates and multi-session cards are available.

Parent and Toddler Groups

Toddlers are endearing, yet very challenging to parents! The Parent and Toddler Groups at the Family Center at Exeter Hospital offer socialization, support, and information to help you survive and enjoy this special stage of childhood. Led by a Family Center nurse, who is also an experienced parent, the session includes a scheduled topic with time for discussion, questions, and socialization for both you and your toddler. The groups meet every 1st Thursday and 3rd Monday of each month.
Come make some new friends and enjoy an informative, fun morning out!

Joint Replacement Information Class

The Center for Joint Replacement offers an on-going class for individuals who are considering joint replacement or for patients and families to attend prior to their scheduled joint replacement surgery. This class is designed to educate the patient and family members about what to expect and give them the opportunity to meet some of the team members. The class is always open to questions and concerns that patients and their family members may have. It is open for anyone having or considering joint replacement surgery.

First Aid - American Heart Association

This 3 hour class covers bleeding, fractures, heat problems, frostbite, stroke, seizures, and other medical and emergent situations that are not immediately life threatening. CPR certification, either adult or pediatric is required for participation. Class fees are $45.
Registration for the class is guaranteed by both your enrollment and class payment. | 20 Cancer Well-Fit Exercise Classes

At the Center for Cancer Care, we consider exercise to be a potential part of each patient's treatment plan. Cancer Well-Fit is our exercise program designed for people who are currently in or within one year of cancer treatment. These free, 10-week, twice-weekly exercise classes are held at Synergy's Health and Fitness Center on the campus of Exeter Hospital. Class times are: 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, 4:00pm and 4:30pm.
All participants are screened by a physical therapist prior to enrollment and individual exercise programs are prescribed to meet the needs of each participant.
Weekly Cancer Well-Fit Yoga classes are also available at Synergy's Mind Body Studio. Medical clearance and screening are required for the Cancer Well-Fit Yoga classes.

Masters Swim Program

This workout is similar to the United States Masters Swim program. Swimmers should be able to swim 100 yards (2 laps) freestyle without stopping.

Healthreach Smoking Cessation: Kickin' Butts!

A community smoking cessation program that combines individual follow up and group support and education on healthy lifestyle strategies for becoming and staying smoke-free. The group component consists of 3 group classes that meet each month. Enrollment can begin at any time, but must include participation in all 3 classes.
After your enrollment you will receive a call from the Program Coordinator to talk about your smoking history, help you set a quit date, and give you details on the program structure and group classes.
Healthy Exercise Strategies is taught by a rotation of staff from Exeter Hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and Synergy Health and Fitness Center. You will learn principles of healthy exercise, how exercise can help you quit smoking and maintain a healthier lifestyle, and individualized strategies to incorporate exercise into your life. This class is reimbursable through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
