The Center for Joint Replacement offers an on-going class for individuals who are considering joint replacement or for patients and families to attend prior to their scheduled joint replacement surgery. This class is designed to educate the patient and family members about what to expect and give them the opportunity to meet some of the team members. The class is always open to questions and concerns that patients and their family members may have. I t is open for anyone having or considering joint replacement surgery.
The class is repeated on either the 1st Thursday or the 3rd Monday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Exeter Hospital in the North Conference Rooms. To register for an upcoming class please call Healthreach Information Center at 1-800-4-EXETER (1-800-439-3837).

The Parent & Toddler Group at the Family Center at Exeter Hospital offers socialization, support, and information to help you survive and enjoy this special stage of childhood. Led by a Family Center nurse, who is also an experienced parent, the session includes a scheduled topic with time for discussion, questions, and socialization for both you and your toddler. Come make some new friends and enjoy an informative, fun morning out!
For parents and their children who are 12 months through 36 months of age, the group meets monthly and are FREE of charge. No registration is necessary.

The Seacoast Pregnancy and Infant Loss Council

The Seacoast Pregnancy and Infant Loss council is a collaboration of the seacoast hospitals, represented by Exeter Hospital, Frisbie Memorial Hospital, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and York Hospital.
The Seacoast area hospitals have a shared mission of providing caring, holistis, compassionate, interdisciplinary, ethical, professional and evidence-based care, to all families who experience a pregnancy or infant loss, by providing education, holding ongoing support groups, and hosting annual walks to remember and memorial services for the community.
The SPILC support group is for families who have experienced a loss of a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or newborn death. Meetings will be held every other week for a 12 week period. The groups will be facilitated by persons trained in pregnancy and infant loss.

| 7 Healthreach Smoking Cessation: Kickin' Butts!

A community smoking cessation program that combines individual follow up and group support and education on healthy lifestyle strategies for becoming and staying smoke-free. The group component consists of 3 group classes that meet each month. Enrollment can begin at any time, but must include participation in all 3 classes.
After your enrollment you will receive a call from the Program Coordinator to talk about your smoking history, help you set a quit date, and give you details on the program structure and group classes.
Healthy Eating Strategies is taught by a Registered Dietician. You will learn the principles of healthy eating, how healthy eating can help control your urge to smoke and prevent weight gain, and practical, individualized strategies to incorporate healthy eating into your lifestyle. This class is reimbursable through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

HealthReach Diabetes will again offer TALK'N DIABETES, an informative and lively discussion about diabetes self-care. This program is offered in collaboration with Neighborhood Diabetes, a local pharmacy and diabetes resource organization. Monthly topics will focus on helping people who live with diabetes gain control over their disease - one step at a time.
TALK'N DIABETES will be held on the second Wednesday of every month at Exeter Senior Center, 32 Court Street in Exeter.

Your Pregnant Body - Before & After Baby

This is the FIRST class that ALL expectant couples should take. A physical therapist will discuss the changes that occur to your body during pregnancy, ways to alleviate minor discomforts, how to prevent injury, and strategies to condition your body for the challenges of childbirth.
Partners/support persons will have the opportunity to try on the "empathy belly" simulator to better appreciate what it's like to be pregnant!

Cesarean Birth/Epidural Anesthesia Class

A physician from the anesthesia department will present information to you about the various types of analgesia and anesthesia available as options for your comfort during labor and delivery and will also help prepare you for a Cesarean birth if that becomes necessary.
This 1 hour class is usually scheduled the 2nd Wednesday of every month and precedes the "Amazing Newborn" class.

The Amazing Newborn Class

A pediatric nurse practitioner/clinical nurse specialist will acquaint you with the various appearances and behaviors of a normal newborn and what you can expect in the first few weeks of your newborn's life.
Highly recommended for 1st time parents, this class is usually held the 2nd Wednesday of every month immediately following the Cesarean/Epidural class.

CPR for Family & Friends - is a 2 hour course for the layperson interested in learning CPR and the Heimlich for all ages from adult to infant. No CPR card will be issued and NO TESTING is necessary for completion of the course. CPR covers ages 0 - to adult. Class fees are $25.
This class is reimbursable through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Registration for the class is guaranteed by both your enrollment and class payment. The goals of the group are to provide you with socialization, information, support, and the opportunity to meet other parents of multiples in the area. This is a great place to get your questions answered, your concerns addressed and the chance to share ideas and suggestions with other parents or multiples.

Child Loss Bereavement Group

This group is run by bereaved parents that wish to help others "work with" their own grief.
The group's mission as compassionate friends is to offer FREE mutual assistance. A self-help group offering friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, adult siblings and grandparents following the death of a child of any age and at any time on the journey of grief. We hope to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief by providing information, support and proof that "you can live and find happiness" after the death of a child.
Dottie Bailey and Caryl Dow Welch are the facilitators of this group and bereaved parents as well. Dottie and Caryl know how difficult it can be to attend your first meeting and they want to help, they would like for you to call or email them. Infant Massage, the ancient art of soothing your baby, is practiced in many parts of the world. Infant Massage has been gaining popularity in the United States for several years. Research has shown that babies who are massaged on a regular basis sleep better, deeper and longer. Massage also helps with colic, gas, constipation and teething, just to name a few!
Exeter Hospital's Family Center is now offering FREE introductory Infant Massage Classes but class size will be limited and registration is necessary! Please wait until your baby is born before registering for the class. The recommended age of your baby by the date of the class is between 4 weeks to 10 months old.
WHAT TO BRING:

A large beach towel

A small container of edible oil, such as olive, grapeseed or canola

A boppie or an extra beach towel, best if you have a very young baby (less than 6 months)

This lively 1 hour class is aimed at children 2-10 years old, and includes tour, short 5 minute video, and interactive instruction to learn what being a big brother or sister is all about. Please have your children bring a baby doll or stuffed animal to "practice" holding and wrapping.
We have found that the tour of the Family Center is especially helpful for all participants, especially the very young, because they get to see where mom is going to be when she has the new baby. One of both parents are encouraged to attend.

Oasis Luncheon

The Luncheon is scheduled for the third Monday of every month. The location will be at the Galley Hatch Conference Center at 815 Lafayette Road in Hampton.
Doors open at 11:00 am and lunch will be served promptly at 11:30 a.m. followed by the presentation.
We meet at the galley Hatch Conference Center in Hampton on 815 Lafayette Road, behind the Best Western Hotel. Lunch is served promptly at 11:30am, followed by the presentation at 12:30pm.
Reservations are made one month in advance, by calling the Oasis Reservation line at 778-6520 (press 1). The cost of the event is $10 and payable at the door.

Joint Replacement Information Class

The Center for Joint Replacement offers an on-going class for individuals who are considering joint replacement or for patients and families to attend prior to their scheduled joint replacement surgery. This class is designed to educate the patient and family members about what to expect and give them the opportunity to meet some of the team members. The class is always open to questions and concerns that patients and their family members may have. It is open for anyone having or considering joint replacement surgery.
The class is repeated on either the 1st Thursday or the 3rd Monday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Exeter Hospital in the North Conference Rooms. To register for an upcoming class please call Healthreach Information Center at 1-800-4-EXETER (1-800-439-3837).

Adult Heart Saver CPR

American Heart Association program is a 2 hour class covering 1-person adult/child (ages 1-8) CPR. Heimlich maneuver, risk factors, danger signals, and actions for survival. This is a 2 year certification course with practical skills test. Class fees are $35.
Registration for the class is guaranteed by both your enrollment and class payment. A tour of the Family Center and birth video clips are included. This series of 4 classes is offered on weekday evenings. It is expected that you complete "Your Pregnant Body" class before beginning this series.

This is the FIRST class that ALL expectant couples should take. A physical therapist will discuss the changes that occur to your body during pregnancy, ways to alleviate minor discomforts, how to prevent injury, and strategies to condition your body for the challenges of childbirth.
Partners/support persons will have the opportunity to try on the "empathy belly" simulator to better appreciate what it's like to be pregnant!

Prenatal Breast Feeding Class

Taught by a certified lactation consultant, the benefits of breastfeeding, the process of learning to breastfeed, helpful techniques, and factors involved in breastfeeding are just some of the topics covered in this presentation.
This class is highly recommended for both the expectantmother and her partner / support person.

| 23 Healthreach Smoking Cessation: Kickin' Butts!

A community smoking cessation program that combines individual follow up and group support and education on healthy lifestyle strategies for becoming and staying smoke-free. The group component consists of 3 group classes that meet each month. Enrollment can begin at any time, but must include participation in all 3 classes.
After your enrollment you will receive a call from the Program Coordinator to talk about your smoking history, help you set a quit date, and give you details on the program structure and group classes.
Stress Management Strategies is taught by instructors at Synergy Health & Fitness Center's Mind Body Studio. You will learn how to manage stress and decrease your urge to smoke through Mind-Body practices. You will learn relaxation techniques that you can use immediately and incorporate into your lifestyle. This class is reimbursable through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

This course is for all 5th-8th graders (no one under the age of 11 years). The underlying component is learning how to judge your abilities and make decisions. Information is covered on safety, child development, first aid, how to begin your business and preparing for the unexpected. Participants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch and a sweater!
