Cancer Wellness Resident Artist

In her five years as resident artist at Exeter Hospital, Kathleen Robbins has spent her time helping patients create their own art through the Center for Cancer Care’s Wellness Program. Under Kathleen’s guidance the art program was developed to allow patients to use the creative process for their own personal, spiritual and healing growth. Patients have the opportunity to learn basic art techniques in a group setting or to take one-on-one art lessons in the infusion area. These sessions provide a healing tool for patients to express their hopes, fears and desires.

In addition to offering classes, Kathleen provides live art demonstrations for patients in the medical oncology and radiation oncology waiting areas. Patients have the opportunity to relax and observe the creative process from conception to completion. The live art program lightens the atmosphere in an otherwise tense environment.

The artwork that is created during these live art demonstrations can be purchased through the Exeter Hospital Gift Shop. All proceeds support The Beyond the Rainbow Fund which provides critical assistance to families struggling with cancer by handling the little things in life such as transportation, childcare and even paying bills when a loved one is in what can be the fight of their life.
